Amazonite, Stone of courage and truth
Known as ‘Stone of Courage’ and ‘Stone of Truth’ it was given the name Amazonite in 1847 by German mineralogist August Breithaupt. Amazonite is a green potassium feldspar.
Amazonite is easy to carve and ancient Sumerian & Babylonians (16,000 years BCE) used amazonite to make seals.
The ancient Egyptians held amazonite in extremely high esteem and an amazonite scarab beetle ring was found in Tutankhamen’s tomb and Egyptians carved Chapter Seven, The Judgement of Osiris, of the Book of the Dead onto slabs of amazonite rock.
Amazonite deposits are found primarily in the Ilmensky Mountains, 50 miles southwest of Chelyabinsk, Russia. Other deposits can be found in the United States, Libya, China and Mongolia, with deposits being actually rare.
Amazonite Metaphysical Properties
Like jade, amazonite stones are also believed to have tremendous healing abilities and is associated with money, luck and overall success hence the name “gambler’s stone.
It is believed to have a soothing effect on the nervous system. The is stone is associated with the throat and heart it is best when worn as a necklace.
Amazonite is used to treat fatigue, trauma or anything else that may take energy away from a person. Amazonite is believed to help problems with the thyroid glands and aids in treating alcoholism. It has a gentle healing quality
