Heart Mythology

Ancient Egypt: The Seat of the Soul In ancient Egyptian mythology, the heart held a central place in the journey to the afterlife. According to the Egyptian belief system, the heart (ib) was considered the seat of intelligence and emotion, essential for a person’s identity and existence beyond death. In the weighing of the heart ceremony, depicted in the Book of the Dead, the heart of the deceased was weighed against the feather of Ma’at, the goddess of truth and justice. If the heart was found to be pure and free from sin, the soul could continue its journey into the afterlife. This belief underscores the importance of moral purity and righteousness in ancient Egyptian society.

Greek Mythology: The Source of Emotion In Greek mythology, the heart was closely associated with emotions and desires. The ancient Greeks believed that the heart, or kardia, was the source of various human emotions, including love, courage, and fear. According to myth, Eros, the god of love, would shoot arrows into the hearts of mortals, causing them to fall in love. Additionally, the heart was believed to be the dwelling place of the soul and intellect, reflecting the interconnectedness of the physical and spiritual realms in Greek thought. This perspective on the heart’s significance continues to influence art, literature, and culture to this day.

Norse Mythology: Courage and Strength In Norse mythology, the heart was associated with bravery, courage, and resilience. The Vikings revered the heart as a symbol of strength and determination in the face of adversity. In the epic poem “Beowulf,” the titular hero is described as having a “brave heart,” highlighting the Norse valor associated with the organ. Furthermore, the Vikings believed in the concept of “hugr,” which referred to the innermost thoughts and feelings residing within the heart. This notion underscores the deep psychological and emotional significance attributed to the heart in Norse culture.

Indigenous Mythologies: Harmony and Balance Across various indigenous cultures, the heart holds symbolic importance as a vessel of harmony and balance. In many Native American traditions, the heart is seen as the centre of interconnectedness between humans, nature, and the spirit world. The beating of the heart is often likened to the rhythm of the earth, symbolizing the cyclical nature of existence. Moreover, indigenous mythologies often depict the heart as a repository of wisdom and intuition, guiding individuals on their spiritual journey. This holistic view of the heart underscores the interconnectedness of all living beings and the importance of maintaining balance within oneself and the natural world.

Photography

The images on our website are created very simply. We don’t use a fancy camera, photoshop them, apply filters or give them a magic touch – they are already special .

The only thing we use is an iPhone 15 in portrait mode with no filter a regular LED lamp and Microsoft paint 3D to get rid of the clutter in the background so you can see the item itself.

Here is the lamp
